HX Pocket Guide to PI Planning

HX Pocket Guide to PI Planning

Overview

I created this HX Pocket Guide to PI Planning to give HCD teams a practical, approachable resource as they begin adopting agile practices. While there is plenty of theory available, I wanted to create something simple and action-oriented that teams could use right away to get started with implementing this agile ceremony. The guide helps break down the complexity of PI Planning into manageable steps, showing how teams can structure their work, align on goals, and create a rhythm that supports both collaboration and delivery.

A core focus of the guide is helping teams learn how to strategize and prioritize their work across a Program Increment. Many teams struggle with balancing day-to-day tasks against larger initiatives, and I wanted to provide a framework for connecting the big picture to the team’s immediate plans. By highlighting techniques for identifying priorities, sequencing work, and addressing dependencies, the guide helps teams move beyond reactive planning into more intentional and strategic execution.

My goal was to create a tool that equips leaders, facilitators, and team members alike with the confidence and clarity to plan effectively, turning what can often feel like a daunting process into an opportunity for alignment, energy, and shared commitment.
